What is laparoscopy ?

A laparoscopy is a procedure that a physician does to view within the pelvis and abdomen. A laparoscope, which is a thin, flexible tube with a light and a tiny video camera on the end, is used for this. A little incision is made in the abdominal wall close to the navel (belly button) to insert the tube. To insert additional equipment, it is also possible to make a second or third incision in various abdominal regions. Keyhole or minimally invasive surgery are other names for laparoscopy.
